Playa Tilapa

Beach Cabin Rental

La Playa Tilapa is located in the Southwest corner of Guatemala only about 10 miles south of the Mexican border. This very small fishing village is a perfect place for a quiet weekend or a secluded week at the beach. The little town of Tilapa is rustic and a bit rough looking, but a quick 10 minute boat ride to Tilapita and you will be sitting on a almost deserted beach watching the waves and sipping a cold beer!

Thank you! This was just what I needed. Three nights of rest and relaxation. This place was so laid back, I loved sleeping in the hammocks.

You guys did a great job. My husband and I had a great weekend at the Rancho. We did not cook but it was nice having the option with the small kitchen.

Thank you Tom & Mary. Your beach cabin is lovely with just the right amount of privacy and seclusion. I was the ONLY person on the beach for most of the days I was there. Wonderful!!!

FAQ

How do I get from Xela to Tilapa?

Take the Golondrina bus from the Minerva Terminal in Xela going to the town of Coatepeque. The bus runs every 30 minutes or so. From Coatepeque look for the Santa Lucia bus line which runs to La Blanca and onward to Tilapa. It will take approx 5 hours by bus from Xela.

How do I get to the Cabin ?

Tilapa is at the very end of the bus line. Once you reach the end, get off the bus and walk to your left toward the boat docks. You can hire a boat to take you to Tilapita for Q10/person. Tell the lanchero you want to go El Rancho de Don Tom y Doña Mary.  The boat drops you off at the main dock from there you can walk to the cabin or take a one of the waiting pickup trucks.

Are there stores where I can buy food?

There are a few small stores in Tilapita that sell basic items like drinks, beer, chips, water, sugar, pasta…etc.  These stores are very small and usually poorly stocked.  It is best to bring the food you will need with you.  We like to bring snack food and eat in the restaurant next door to the cabin.

Are there restaurants in Tilapita ?

Yes, the cabin is located beside Hotel Pacific Mar, the only hotel in Tilapita. The hotel has a great restaurant with 4 main dishes: Shrimp breaded or fried in Garlic, Fried Fish, Seafood Stew or Eggs and beans. Meals cost approx Q60/plate and include potatoes, tortillas and a salad.  BONUS…if you eat at the restaurant you can use the hotel pool for FREE!!

What is included in the cabin rental ?

The cabin has two rooms, one bath with indoor shower and two outdoor showers. The sleeping room has four double bed with sheets, pillows and mosquito nets. Main living room is equipped with a table and chairs for 6 ppl, a small, simple kitchen with utensils for cooking and eating. No Fridge

How Do I Reserve & Pay ?

Advanced reservations and a 2 night minimum stay  are required for all bookings.  To book the cabin fill out the booking form above. Payment must be made by Pay Pal, Credit Card or local bank deposit PRIOR to your arrival.   The on site caretaker set up the cabin give you keys upon arrival.
